Durante una delle sue provocatorie trasmissioni mattutine inizia a ricevere alcune chiamate da ascoltatori allarmati da strani assembramenti di persone in stato catatonico. Grant insieme agli altri che si trovano all’interno della stazione radio inizieranno a indagare su questo strano fenomeno. Ma poco alla volta gli avvenimenti inizieranno a trasformarsi in qualcosa di decisamente più preoccupante.
APPROFONDIMENTI E CURIOSITÀ (MENO DEL MINIMO SINDADACALE)
Pontypool è un film a basso budget ma ad alto tasso di originalità. Un qualcosa che si avvicina al ‘geniale’, aggettivo che comunque è sempre meglio usare con parsimonia.
Di ‘virus-movie’ ne sono stati prodotti fin troppi ma al film in oggetto piace travestirsi da questo genere cinematografico. L’agente patogeno e la cura – in quest’occasione – sono decisamente interessanti, estrosi, profondi e, cosa molto importante, sui generis.
Il regista canadese Bruce McDonald (Hard Core Logo, Sola nella Trappola) riesce con grande mestiere a completare la missione di trasportare lo spettatore, attraverso una bella dose da cavallo di disagi e claustrofobia, verso una progressione di eventi carichi di sani dubbi e di probabili terribili consapevolezze. Ed è questo uno dei tanti punti di forza di Pontypool (Pontypool – Zitto… o muorititolo italiano).
Molto buona la regia e superlativa la fotografia del per me sconosciuto Miroslaw Baszak.
A voi basterà resistere solo a qualche macchia confusionaria della sceneggiatura e ad alcune “divertenti divagazioni” per approdare in una landa in cui si percepisce come la comunicazione (non solo quella generata dai mass media) possa creare distorsioni e danni. Un’ultima specifica: vi aspettano diversi finali, ognuno con una o più interpretazioni; quindi approcciate come si deve ai titoli di coda e al loro corollario.
